THE PORT ADELAIDE Football Club has promoted exciting rookie Nick Salter to the senior list for season 2009.

After some stand out performances for Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL, the 21-year-old played two AFL games for the Power in 2008, debuting against St Kilda with a two-goal performance in Round 19.

Salter, who possesses a thumping kick and a strong contested mark, was recruited from Woodville-West Torrens at pick 15 in the 2008 Rookie Draft.

Port Adelaide General Manager – Football Operations Peter Rohde said it was great to able to promote another talented young player to the senior list.

“Nick has developed significantly this season in the SANFL with some outstanding performances for Woodville-West Torrens which saw him selected in the South Australian team that defeated Victoria at the Adelaide Oval in May,” Rohde said.

“After continuing to impress at the local level, Nick showed our supporters what he can do at AFL level with a two unforgettable long goals against St Kilda, one after taking a big hit to the head.

“He’s capable of playing both ends of the ground, can take a strong contested mark and as we saw on his debut what a great kick for goal he is.”

Salter, who stands 191 centimetres tall, said he was delighted to be elevated to the Power’s senior list.

“I’m very excited to be given this opportunity,” Salter said.

“There are some exciting times ahead at the club with the young group of players that are coming through. The Port Adelaide Football Club has a great learning environment with a quality group of experienced players and a terrific coaching staff that help all us younger players develop.

“My main aim is to get a solid pre-season under my belt and then play consistent footy next season, whether that be in the SANFL or at AFL level.

“My long term aim is to consolidate a spot at AFL level and help the club achieve success in the future.”

With Salter’s promotion to the senior list, the Power has now eight spots to fill on the senior list via the NAB AFL National Draft on November 29 and the NAB Pre-Season Draft on December 16.
