Most footballers in their off-season are concerned about maintaining their body for the gruelling pre-season that waits when they return.

Shaun Burgoyne, Toby Thurstans, Tom Logan, Nick Lower and Hugh Minson have an extra concern – maintaining the hair on their upper lip.

The Power quintet is part of Team Modafone. Yes that’s right, Vodafone, one of the Power’s joint major sponsors, has created a team especially for the month formerly known as November and now Movember.

All members of Team Modafone are keeping the razors well away from the region just below their nose for not only a desirable moustache but also an extremely good cause.

Movember aims to raise awareness for men’s health issues and funds for the fight against male depression and prostate cancer.

A week into the grow and it’s a case of so far so good for the Power players.

As you can see from the picture above, Shaun Burgoyne is well on the way to not just a moustache but a ‘mustachio’. A mustachio is a bushy moustache, with hair sometimes growing down the sides of the mouth. It’s also known as a nose-beard, or the moustachio fantastico.

Shaun, who married Amy Phillips in the off-season, enjoys what he sees in the mirror.

“I’ve taken a good liking to it but my friends are talking about it and they think I look like a porn star,” Shaun said.

“Amy isn’t a big fan of my mo but she knows it raising funds for a good cause.”

While all the players involved in Movember are doing it for a good cause, Shaun doesn’t think everyone will be able to create the look.

“I think Hugh Minson might struggle,” Shaun said, “because it’s hard to grow a mo when you haven’t been through puberty yet!”

As well as the players, Power staff members Aaron Flanagan, Michael Condon, Nick Smith, David Bartlett, Tony Saulters and Richard Holmes are growing the mo as part of Team Modafone.

Team Modafone is moving along very nicely, in fact it is currently sitting at No.1 in Australia for money raised in the corporate section!
