The Port Adelaide Football Club continues to lead the way in community programs within sport in Australia.
The Power Community Youth Program was the first educational schools program administered by an AFL club. The program is managed by Russell Ebert and involves three visits to selected schools.
The Power Community Youth Program visits over 170 schools every year across South Australia promoting positive messages to school students. The themes include:
- Eat Well, Be Active, Don’t Smoke
- Harmony, Respect and Teamwork
Students receive up to three visits and a workbook with class activities. Importantly, the positive messages are delivered by both male and female elite athletes including Power footballers, female netballers, basketballers and cyclists. The Power Community Youth Program is funded by BHP Billiton and State Government.
