Match Report

Big result for Power as Robbie stars in attack

By Matthew Agius June 24, 2017 4:00 PM

Highlights: Round 14, 2017 v Pies - PTV
Highlights: Round 14, 2017 v Pies - PTV Port gets the job done.

PORT ADELAIDE has continued its run of recent good form over Collingwood with a strong win led by a Robbie Gray masterclass at the MCG.

Gray was superb with four goals in the first half to give the Power the ascendency, with his teammates joining the party with a dominant five-goals-to-none third term.

His creativity and danger around the football gave headaches to the home side all afternoon. He finished with five majors to his name.

But as good as Gray was, Port had been the better side from the first bounce, even though the game descended into a dour scrap for the ball at times.

While both teams found ways to turn the ball into opposition hands, Port was far more efficient going forward.

It's pressure inside attacking 50 gave repeat opportunties after missing early shots, and the Power defensive group was superb - especially in the first half - at forcing Collingwood to surrender possession.

Matt White and Jasper Pittard came in as injury replacements and acquitted themselves well. White especially played a strong game to stake a claim to retain his position next week.

Chad Wingard was also moved to a tagging role against Collingwood leader Scott Pendlebury, in a considerable demonstration of his flexibility as a forward, midfielder and run-with player.

The result - a 31-point win - sets the Power up with good momentum ahead of a mammoth test against Richmond at the Adelaide Oval next week.

The Power host the Tigers on Saturday 1 July at 7.10pm ACST.
