FIVE PLAYERS - including three SANFL Magpies - have been given permission to train with Port Adelaide's AFL squad ahead of next week's pre-season and rookie drafts.

Recently re-signed SANFL pool players Sam Gray and Aseri Raikiwasa will again train with the Power, having previously participated in pre-season prior to the 2012 rookie draft.

They will be joined by fellow Magpie Daniel Kulikowski, ex-Carlton rookie Frazer Dale and former senior-listed player Brent Renouf on the 'train-on' list.

Port has committed to re-listing Renouf as a rookie after he was removed from the senior list in the club's second list lodgment.

Speedster Kane Mitchell will also remain a rookie.

The Power's national recruiting manager Geoff Parker told portadelaidefc.com.au the club will observe the invitees with interest, but will also consider players from outside the 'train-on' group.

"The permission to train list is a great opportunity for these blokes to show off their skills in an AFL training environment and test themselves against AFL players," said Parker.

"But the way they perform in the next week won't be the only factor that decides whether they get picked up [as rookies].

"Last year Kane Mitchell was our first pick in the rookie draft and he wasn't part of our 'train-on' group.

"Like with all our drafting, many things are taken into consideration because we need to make sure we invest our picks on the most suitable players for our needs."

The Power commenced its pre-season training campaign for first to fourth year players on Monday morning at the Warnpangga 'Uni Loop' in North Adelaide with all members of the 'permission to train' list, except Renouf who is currently rehabilitating from patella surgery, taking part.

portadelaidefc.com.au will have full coverage of the club's selections in the NAB AFL Draft on Thursday night.
