SIX PLAYERS will undergo fitness tests this week ahead of Port Adelaide's opening AFL game against Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday night.

Experienced heads Jay Schulz, Alipate Carlile and Jackson Trengove will be monitored this week ahead of selection on Thursday night.

Macca's player reviews

Senior coach Ken Hinkley was optimistic the trio would be cleared to play the Blues in the Power's first match of the home-and-away season.

Midfielders Aaron Young, Andrew Moore and Matt White all sustained minor bumps in the club's final trial game against St Kilda last Saturday and will be monitored at training this week.

Paul Stewart sustained a calf injury in the second quarter against the Saints and will undergo scans tomorrow.

High performance manager Darren Burgess projects Stewart could take a fortnight recovering from the injury.

He is also taking a conservative approach with defender Campbell Heath, who is nursing a shin problem.

"Paul will get a scan on Tuesday and we'll find out the extent of any damage then, but at this stage we think it looks pretty minor," Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"We've been conservative with Campbell; he's OK and still on target for a Round 2 availability."

Match report

If the Power's six at-training assessments are cleared this week, it would leave just three players on the club's injury list ahead of the Carlton opener, with Jarrad Redden now at least four weeks away from a return from a knee injury.

SANFL senior player Danny Butcher rolled his ankle during the Magpies' 15-point victory over South Adelaide earlier on Saturday and will be assessed at training during the week.
