PAUL STEWART will be available to play this week while Lewis Stevenson and Ben Newton will be assessed in a series of good injury outcomes for Port Adelaide.

Stewart has fully recovered from a calf injury sustained in an early March trial game against St Kilda and will be available for selection.

Talking points

Lewis Stevenson’s recovery from a toe injury has progressed rapidly and will undergo a fitness test ahead of selection, while Ben Newton will be evaluated by the club doctor before being considered for a return.

Newton was concussed during Port Adelaide’s final trial game against North on Friday night at Alberton.

“Paul will be available this week and Lewy should also be able to play, although we’ll need to assess him before selection,” high performance manager Darren Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“Benny Newton will also be tested before he comes back, he was hit pretty hard last Friday night and we’ll need to make sure he’s 100% right to play given the concussion.”

Andrew Moore is on track with his recovery from an injured AC joint and could be available next week.

Jarrad Redden and Campbell Heath are still at least 3-4 weeks away returning from respective knee and shin injuries.

Port Adelaide has also confirmed the addition of Mason Shaw to its long term injury list, although no rookie has been elevated to replace him.

Shaw injured his wrist during the Magpies’ trial game against Central District a fortnight ago.

Magpies senior-listed livewire Jake Johansen will miss at least six weeks recovering from a broken hand.

The small forward suffered the injury during an incident against the Roosters, where he was pushed into the side fence on Alberton Oval's western wing.

Magpies fitness manager Greg King also confirmed Danny Butcher could return against Glenelg in Round 2.

“We’re being more conservative with Danny, but he should be right to go for our first home game," King said.

“It's really disappointing news for Jake to be ruled out just before the season starts.

“He’ll be about six weeks away from a return, we’ll manage him carefully and hopefully see him back in time for the Sturt game at Alberton."

Port Adelaide's SANFL League side plays Norwood at  the Parade on Thursday night at 7:15pm, while the Power will take on North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
