PORT Adelaide and Geelong will clash on Sunday at Adelaide Oval in a top of the table blockbuster.

portadelaidefc.com.au investigates who’s in the mix for selection for both sides.

Port Adelaide
Jay Schulz, Jackson Trengove and Chad Wingard have all been declared fit to play against the Cats.

Angus Monfries is pushing to make a surprise early return from a hamstring injury he suffered in Round 3 against North Melbourne.

Monfries’ recovery has gone smoothly, but he’ll still need to pass a fitness test on Thursday to be considered for the clash with the Cats.

Jack Hombsch (hamstring) also faces a fitness test on Thursday having missed the game in Perth against the Eagles.

Ken Hinkley and the coaches will also no doubt consider the form of several players in the SANFL.

Ben Newton continued his strong start to the season with 33 touches and 14 clearances against the Eagles. Finding a spot in the Power’s midfield at the moment is tough, but Newton keeps knocking on the door.

Although Kane Mitchell is still listed as a rookie, his strong performance will again push his claims for a spot on the senior list – especially with Lewis Stevenson being added to the long-term injury list.

Geelong
Andrew Mackie was subbed out of the game against the Hawks on Monday with hamstring soreness and will face a fitness test this week to prove he is right to play on Sunday.

Mackie is Geelong’s major injury concern from the Round 5 clash and if he doesn’t get up for the game, expect Jackson Thurlow to take his place in the side after being named as an emergency against the Hawks.

Tom Peeters from geelongcats.com.au suggests Steven Motlop is virtually no chance of returning to action after returning from a knee injury through the VFL.

The silky-skilled Motlop played just half a game for the Cats in the VFL and is likely to continue building up match fitness before he is called up to Geelong’s AFL side.

Strong VFL performances from Josh Walker (four goals) and Mitch Brown (three goals) could have them pushing for an AFL spot, but don’t expect the Cats to make wholesale changes to a side that defeated reigning premiers Hawthorn.
