TEENAGE girls from across Adelaide have attended the Girl Power Leadership Forum at Alberton Oval.

Girl Power is a program delivered by Power Community Ltd, the community development arm of Port Adelaide Football Club, that promotes positive body image and self-esteem, healthy lifestyles, goal setting and leadership to girls aged 14-16 years.

The program includes visits to secondary schools, sessions at Alberton Oval and a leadership forum with a range of guest speakers. The forum included an Opening Address – From Note Taker to Decision Maker – delivered by Sue Doyle, Executive General Manager People and Culture at Adelaide Airport Ltd. Staff from Defence Force Recruiting delivered a workshop on Taking Responsibility and Thinking Big, and staff from Transfield Services addressed the topic Setting Goals and Staying Motivated.

Other highlights included an inspirational address from Olympian Anna Meares, who outlined her own approach to goal setting in the lead up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and an afternoon yoga session that had students relaxed and focused about their health, education and career goals.

Girl Power has expanded this year with support from Renault, Transfield Services, Adelaide Airport Ltd, Defence Force Recruiting and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, and together we will support participating students to find work experience in their desired careers. We thank all partners and the inspirational Anna Meares – we are kicking goals together.
