FORMER Port Adelaide captain Warren Tredrea has been appointed an All-Australian selector.

The AFL's general manager - football operations Mark Evans confirmed Tredrea's appointment to the vacant position left by former Crows skipper Mark Ricciuto.

Ricciuto resigned from his position as a selector to join the Adelaide Football Club's board earlier this month.

The appointment follows a successful 2014 year for the club's first AFL premiership captain, who was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in June.

Himself a four-time All-Australia, Tredrea retired in 2010 having played a then-club record 255 games.

He remains Port Adelaide's all-time leading goalkicker, having booted 549 majors in his 14-year career.

Tredrea joins League chief executive Gillion McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Mark Evans, Danny Frawley, Glen Jackovich, Cameron Ling and Matthew Richardson on the selection panel.

The panel also joins the AFL's national talent manager Kevin Sheehan in selecting the NAB AFL Rising Star Award recipient.
