HUGE ticket demand for Sunday’s first elimination final between Port Adelaide and Richmond saw over half the reserved-seat allocation at the stadium sell in the first hour of sales on Monday morning.

Over 26,000 reserved seats of the fully reserved stadium sold between the start of members’ pre-sale at 9:00am and 10:00am.

The allocation of seats in the member pre-sale was evenly split between eligible Power and Tigers members.

Remaining tickets went on sale to the general public at 2:00pm on Monday afternoon and as of 3.30pm that day, virtually all available seats have been fully exhausted with only Western Stand tickets remaining.

There will be some guest passes released at 9:00am.

During the intense four-hour pre-sale block, some members of Port Adelaide were unable to access seats, with almost twice as many members eligible for the 20,000-seat priority allocation.

“With huge demand from two big clubs for the first AFL final at the Adelaide Oval, we saw over 26,000 tickets sold to Sunday’s game in the first hour today,” says Port Adelaide’s general manager – consumer business and marketing Matthew Richardson.

“It’s an incredible uptake from two highly-engaged membership bases that wanted to get to this game."

Matthew Richardson addresses a range of questions to come out of the priority pre-sale period here:

1. Why couldn’t I get the seats I wanted?

“All AFL finals are effectively ‘AFL events’ not home games– so members don’t have guaranteed access for finals to their allocated seat for home games."

“The stadium is allocated for the pre-sale 50/50 between the two competing clubs, so your seat during the season may have been in the Richmond allocation for Sunday’s game.

"we understand the disappointed from some of our members who’ve not been able to secure the seats they were hoping for but the rate of sale has been significant.”

2. “I’ve been a Platinum member for many years and I wasn’t able to get good seats.”

“We certainly understand the frustration of many members who were unable to access their normal seating areas during the pre-sale and understand the inconvenience the new allocations have caused many."

"The rate of tickets sales from both club’s members in the first hour was significant.

“While it’s a home final in the sense that we play at the Adelaide Oval, it isn’t a home game from a seating/ticketing perspective.

“The even split between seats allocated to Power and Tigers members means that only half the stadium was available to our members this morning, during the 9am – 1pm pre-sale.

“Members were online so quickly this morning – scooping up 26,000 tickets in the first hour – and Category 1 seats were sold through in a matter of minutes, so that huge rush for tickets meant some people unfortunately were not happy with the seats that were available to them by the time they got on the Ticketek website, on the phone or through to a Ticketek outlet.”

3. “How are you going to fix the ticket sales process?”

“We have had a lot of feedback from disappointed members who’ve missed out or aren’t happy with their seats for this game.”

“We are very disappointed that any of our members are disappointed and frustrated through this process.

"We will work with the AFL and the ticketing agent to improve the finals ticketing process in future years.

“The purchase process through Ticketek and the membership categories we allocate finals priority to are two things we will definitely review for future years."
