Channel Seven's coverage of Port Adelaide's 22-point win over Fremantle in Saturday night's semi final has smashed records in a big win for the Power's club partner.

The Saturday Night Footy telecast of the first semi final set the highest five-city metropolitan figure for the year, with 1,003,000 on tuning into the coverage on average throughout the night.

A metropolitan peak of 1,409,000 was recorded.

The Adelaide and Perth audience record for 2014 was also reached by the game, with the two capitals recording average audiences of 213,000 (a peak of (334,000) and 245,000 a peak of (259,000) respectively.

The national average for the game was 1,266,000 - just an average 31,000 shy of the figure reached by Friday night's other thrilling semi final between the Cats and Kangaroos.

The Power's victory also helped Seven hit its biggest ever prime time nightly win.

The combined 57.4% combined audience share eclipsed the network's previous record of 53.6% on Saturday 29 August 1998.

Seven also record an average of 55,503 viewers for Port Adelaide's victory over South in Sunday's SANFL Preliminary Final.
