THE Eyre Peninsula recently played host to staff from Power Community Ltd as they embarked on the first regional trip for the newly improved Empowering Youth Program thanks to the program’s major partner Beyond Bank.

The Empowering Youth program encourages secondary school students to take responsibility for themselves and others by making positive decisions in relation to their health, lifestyle, finances and career path.

The program involves a range of topics which contribute to physically active and socially engaged young people within the community. These topics include health and wellbeing, road safety, harm minimisation, role modelling, leadership, goal setting and decision making.

Beyond Bank have a strong community focus and were more than happy to support the initiative to take this program to regional schools in Pt Lincoln, Whyalla and Pt Augusta. Staff from Beyond Bank joined club legend Russell Ebert and community staff Ross Wait and Lisa Kennedy as they visited high schools and football clubs across the region.

They also dropped in to the bank branches to meet the local staff and customers, which was all too familiar for Russell Ebert who spent 10 years working in the state bank as a youngster.

The group was joined by new recruit Johann Wagner in Pt Lincoln who is keen to have ongoing involvement in our community programs as he begins his journey with the club. Johann spoke to students from Pt Lincoln High School and St Joeseph’s School about what it takes to be a good leader and having respect for oneself and all those around us.

The club thanks Beyond Bank for their ongoing support in our community programs and look forward to taking the Empowering Youth to more regional schools in the near future – we are kicking goals together.
