PORT Adelaide's disposal efficiency doesn't reflect a side vying for premiership success; the Power ranked 16th last year ahead of Collingwood and Gold Coast.

The Power's attacking game meant the club generated more inside 50s than any other side in 2014 but, at just 71.2 per cent, their disposal efficiency was more than three per cent off League benchmark Hawthorn.

Vice captain Brad Ebert recently flagged the side's need to close that gap in 2015 and key defender Alipate Carlile said progress had been made over the summer.

"[The balls] were out from day one … a pretty big deal's been made about the running but we've just got to keep improving across the board," Carlile said.

"Everyone's been working pretty hard on their skills and especially the disposal efficiency. We’ve been having a crack at our kicks.

"Kenny's been pretty strict on it but it's mainly been driven by the group - Boaky and the other leaders."

Carlile and his teammates will engage in match practice on Friday night at Alberton Oval in front of what's expected to be a healthy crowd.

The glorified training session will raise money for the Bushfire Relief Appeal.

It'll be Port supporters' only chance to see star recruit Patrick Ryder in action before the start of the season. Ryder and Angus Monfries are not playing in the NAB Challenge as they await the verdict of the Anti-Doping Tribunal, expected by late March.

Youngsters like Karl Amon, Tom Clurey, Darcy Byrne and Mason Shaw are all expected to get their first competitive opportunity to impress coach Ken Hinkley.

"It's a chance for the younger boys to show what they've got and blow some cobwebs out. It’s been a long pre-season," Carlile said.

"A bit of match practice for everyone, it'll be a solid hit out but more importantly it'll be for a good cause . We're raising money for the people affected by the bushfires over the Christmas break.

"It'd be really good to get a massive crowd and support them."
