TWO local Magpies will join Steven Summerton in the Port Adelaide SANFL leadership group in 2015.

In the group along with Barwonite Anthony Biemans, who continues as one of the club's League leaders after he joined last year, will be Eyre Peninsula product Ben Sawford and Port metro player Louis Sharrad.

Sharrad also recently put pen to paper on a new contract for this season.

Summerton is thrilled to see two Port zone products rise to leadership positions this year.

Entering his second year as skipper, Summerton told portadelaidefc.com.au the Magpies will be a closer playing group in 2015.

"We've had a bit of a change-up from last year, losing a couple of blokes and what not, but I couldn't have picked a better bunch of three other blokes to have in our leadership group," Summerton said.

"'Sawf', especially, has made heaps of improvements over the pre-season, and I see a bit of myself in him as a junior player.

"It's also awesome to have experienced blokes like Louis and 'Biemer' around for support too.

"We can't really recruit too strongly any more, so it's been a bit of a change, but the group's heaps closer this year than it was last. I think we'll be better again.

"The camaraderie has definitely picked up again this year, and I'm a massive believer the closer you are as a team off the field, the more you want to play for each other on the field.

"That's what we're trying to do this year."
