JAY SCHULZ is free to play football again, although is unlikely to be named against the Swans in the opening NAB Challenge game this week.

A minor ankle roll at training kept Schulz running laps of Alberton Oval, instead of playing in last Friday’s internal trial.

But the full forward has been cleared to resuming playing and should do so against Melbourne in the Power’s second NAB Challenge match.

No injuries were reported from Port's intra-club trial on Friday, leaving the majority of the Power's list available for selection against the Swans in Blacktown and Alberton against the Redtails.

Young defender Logan Austin will also be free to start playing in a week as he enters the final stage of rehabilitation from post-season shoulder surgery.

“Logan’s just cleared the final part of his contact, and is joining training from this week and next week,” Burgess said.

“He’s come along pretty well and will be free to play on 27 February.”

Talls Charlie Dixon and Billy Frampton will resume running this week off the back of respective meniscus surgery and a bruised foot problem.

Both should be available for Round 1.

Rookie Dan Houston is also battling a hip/groin injury, which could keep him out of action for nearly two months.

It’s a setback for the dual TAC Cup premiership player, who was recruited to Alberton via the most recent rookie draft.

“He had a bit of trouble with these sorts of injuries last year, so we’ve scaled him back a bit to get them right,” Burgess said.

“We’re working on his strength and will put him back into training once it clears up.”

Port Adelaide’s SANFL skipper Steven Summerton is recovering from a back complaint, and is expected to be available for the Magpies’ clash against the Crows at Alberton on 27 February.

Sid Masters will be tested to return from a leg injury this week.

Port Adelaide's AFL side plays Sydney in Blacktown on Saturday 20 February and its joint SANFL/Academy side against the Central Australia Redtails at Alberton on Sunday 21 February.
