CLAYTON OLIVER won't be part of the Melbourne team to travel to Alice Springs to play Port Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

The Demons' have played the caution card for their first-round draft pick, who has a thigh injury.

Melbourne senior coach Paul Roos said Oliver would be monitored and that the Dees would take a no-risk approach into the game.

"It's something we have to keep on monitoring over the next month until we get to the bye because, being a young team, you never know when they're going to hit a bit of a wall," Roos said.

While Oliver won't play, Melbourne will welcome the return of Dom Tyson from illness and Neville Jetta from suspension.

Jack Trengove won't play, nor will Chris Dawes who is currently playing VFL for Melbourne's affiliate team Casey.

Port Adelaide will be forced to make at least one change to its side following the suspension of defender Tom Jonas for six games.

portadelaidefc.com.au will have both the Power and Demons line-ups at 5.55pm on Thursday night.

The Power fly out to Alice Springs on Friday with an open training session to take place at TIO Traeger Park Oval at 2.00pm that afternoon.

Port Adelaide and Melbourne will play in the Sir Douglas Nicholls Indigenous Round game at 1.40pm (ACST) on Saturday 28 May. Check our broadcast guide for viewing information.
