THE SIX POINTS

1. A seven-goal second quarter against Glenelg showed the Magpies have the ability to score quickly and were able to fight back despite being two men down on the bench. However Chad Cornes will still be craving that four quarter effort, the scoring coming as a response to a sloppy first quarter and a four-goal deficit at quarter time.

2. After a 39-point loss in Round 1, Sturt has won seven games in a row and are sitting top of the league ladder. The two sides met earlier this year in Round 6 where Sturt had a dominant 63-point win.

3. A few big outs for the Magpies this week with Alipate Carlile on the sidelines for an extended period with a leg injury, and Robbie Young suffering a broken collarbone. Kane Mitchell will also be watching on after accepting a one-match ban for striking.

4. On a more positive note Cameron Hewett and Aidyn Johnson should be right to return from injury, while Jimmy Toumpas will be assessed before the weekend after injuring his ankle.

5. Sturt will be sweating on injuries of their own after ruckman Jack Osborn sustained a foot injury in their last game. He will face a fitness test before being cleared to play.

6. An upset win in the Magpies' favour would keep them in the race for the top five. With three wins, they sit just two games behind fifth-ranked Adelaide.

FINAL WORD

Competition won’t come much harder than over the next fortnight as Port face Sturt and second place South Adelaide, before a week off with the bye.
