AS it happened between the Power and the Lions at the Gabba.

First quarter
The Power were dealt a blow before a ball had been kicked in anger, with Hamish Hartlett ruled out 10 minutes before the game with calf tightness.

Brisbane started the stronger of the two sides, with their tackling pressure winning a free kick inside 50 to Dayne Zorko, who subsequently converted for the first goal of the game.

Eric Hipwood gave the Lions their second in as many minutes, kicking truly from 55m before Justin Westhoff hit back for the visitors.

The Power began to dominate the play, but were unable to convert on the scoreboard - wasting several gettable opportunities.

The Power's dominance eventaully began to show, with Karl Amon winning the free for holding the ball and kicking truly from 50m.

The skipper then kicked his first and Chad Wingard converted from a holding free kick to give the visitors a two goal buffer.

Second quarter
The Power started the second quarter with all the play, but as it had done in the first quarter, wasted opportunities in front of goal.

Brad Ebert, who was again forced from the field with the blood rule, marked strongly on the edge of the 50m arc and then found Justin Westhoff, who kicked his second goal.

Chad Wingard was then gifted a goal, marking 20m out from a Brisbane kicking and coverting for his second goal.

After a poor shot at goal early in the game, John Butcher redeemed himself with two goals inside a minute to give the Power a deserved 29-point lead half way through the second term.

Some unselfish play from Jimmy Toumpas gave Butcher his third goal for the quarter before Travis Boak snapped his second goal to open up a 46-point lead.

The Power kicked seven unanswered goals in the second term.

Third quarter
Jackson Trengove got the Power off to the perfect start in the second quarter, kicking a goal on the run from 40m.

The teams traded goals for the next three before the Power exploded with four straight goals - to Wingard, Young, Boak and Amon.

In the middle of that run of goals was one of the worst misses of the season - to captain Travis Boak.

A classy build-up saw Boak get a shot at goal in the square, which he dribbled into the post from three metres out.

The Power again kicked seven in the term to extend their lead to 62 at the final break.

Fourth quarter
The Power were wasteful with their chances early in the final quarter as the heat went out of the game.

Wingard and Butcher both popped up to kick their fourth as the Power and Lions traded blows.

Aaron Young continued his almost night, getting his soccered goal touched to take his tally to 1.5 for the night.

The win was the Power's first at the Gabba since 2007.
