PORT ADELAIDE leaders recently attended a fundraiser for Australian cricketing legend and Port Adelaide ambassador Barry ‘Nugget’ Rees.

The special fundraising event was held at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night to assist Nugget with his ongoing care, ensuring he can continue his passion - attending footy and cricket games.

Robbie Gray, Hamish Hartlett and Angus Monfries joined 2004 premiership star Darryl Wakelin at the event, along with Australian cricket legends Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillepsie and Justin Langer.

Nugget is a Port Adelaide club favourite and good friend of many of the players and officials, often spotted in the change rooms before and after games.

Power midfielder Robbie Gray said Nugget is a popular character around the club, and the boys were happy to represent Port Adelaide on Tuesday night.

“The boys love having ‘Nug’ in the rooms, whether it be at training or on game day, and we’re really looking forward to introducing him to our new recruits in 2017,” Gray told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“It was really great to get along to the fundraiser and support him.”
