OLLIE WINES will captain Port Adelaide on Saturday afternoon against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

It comes as Port Adelaide confirmed skipper Travis Boak will miss the match with a hamstring injury.

While he’ll be one of Port Adelaide’s younger captains when he runs out on Saturday, Wines, 22, says the added responsibility won’t change his approach.

“I try to be pretty vocal before games, and Kenny and Boaky told me not to change much when I took on the vice-captaincy, I was doing enough at that stage,” Wines told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing and I’ve got plenty of support around me from some seasoned leaders and coaches to help me out.”

Wines has started the year strongly, leading the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year voting after four rounds and among Port’s most consistent performers.

But he says the Power has been general consistent, with few standout players.

“I’ve been able to find some form in the first five rounds, but that coincides with the team playing well.

“There have been a fair few guys in good form. We pride ourselves on not having players stand out.

“We’ve had two tough losses against talented teams like Adelaide and GWS, but looking at the way we’ve gone about the start of the season we’re drawing confidence going forward.”

Port Adelaide plays Brisbane at 4.35pm AEST on Saturday 29 April at the Gabba.
