PORT ADELAIDE has overcome a goalless opening term to romp home over the Adelaide Crows in the SANFL Showdown at Woodville.

The ball was hotly contested throughout the game, but it was the Crows who started strong with the first four goals while keeping the Magpies to another slow start.

Slow starts have been a recurring theme for the Magpies this season, but so has its ability to stamp authority on the game after quarter time.

True to form the Magpies came out firing in the second quarter and were the first to score with a run-on goal from Matt White.

Nathan Krakouer showed his finesse in front of goals kicking three off just five touchs, and with help from fellow goal scorers White, Ladhams and Neade the Magpies had taken the lead at half time.

The Crows only managed to score one goal in the second quarter, due largely to the Magpies’ hard push through the midfield.

Captain Steve Summerton was superior with 18 disposals by half time.

The Crows weren’t relenting though, and kicked the first two goals two minutes into the third term, but their aggression was short-lived and the Magpies took advantage.

Another goal from Krakouer put the Magpies back in front by one and from there,

Brett Eddy unleashed a string of goals to put the game firmly in the Magpies’ and establish a 19-point lead at three-quarter time.

Krakouer and Eddy continued their onslaught in the final quarter to each finish with five goals.

The Crows only managed to push the ball into their forward 50 a handful of times, but thanks to the Magpies’ strong defensive pressure were forced into difficult shots which didn’t pay.

Summerton finished the game with 34 disposals followed closely by Monfries (31), Bonner (30) and Toumpas (29).

Port Adelaide now looks to next Sunday 7 May when it hosts Sturt at Alberton in the 200th game of captain Steven Summerton.
