PORT Adelaide defender Matthew Broadbent is only a "50-50" chance of returning from an ankle injury for Saturday's clash with North Melbourne.

Broadbent has missed two of the Power's past three games and didn't play in their superb 32-point victory over West Coast at Domain Stadium last Sunday.

"He's not training, he's still trying to get his ankle right and he might be able to do something later in the week," Power coach Ken Hinkley told 5AA radio on Tuesday night.

"He'll be 50-50 I reckon at this point to play and because of the way he pulled up after the first time, we'll be a bit cautious.

"My thought, right here, right now, is to say he's a chance to miss the game, I reckon, and that would be just making sure we get him right for the last part of the year."

The 159-game veteran injured his ankle at training ahead of the Power's round 14 win against Collingwood at the MCG.

He returned to the team for the following week's loss to Richmond, but was a late scratching from the team that beat the Eagles.

First-year midfielder Joe Atley came into the Power side for his AFL debut and had 14 possessions.
