OLLIE WINES and Robbie Gray were the only Port Adelaide players to poll any votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award after the Power’s disappointing loss to Geelong on Saturday night.

Wines polled three votes after finishing as one of the Power’s best, despite rolling his ankle early in the last quarter.

The vice-captain was able to return to the field and finished with 29 possessions, six clearances and five tackles.

Gray was awarded two votes for his game which included a game-high 32 disposals, 9 clearances, 7 tackles and four inside 50s.

Geelong skipper Joel Selwood polled highest with nine votes from the match.

He played a crucial role in the midfield, managing 29 disposals, six clearances, seven tackles, four rebound 50s and a game-high nine inside 50s.

Others to poll included Cats Jed Bews and Patrick Dangerfield with five votes each, Mark Blicavs with three, Sam Menegola with two and George Horlin-Smith with one.

Patrick Cripps (Carlton), Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne), Nat Fyfe (Fremantle), Touk Miller (Gold Coast), Sebastian Ross (St Kilda) and Paul Seedsman (Adelaide), all received the maximum ten votes from the AFL coaches for round five.

Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe has jumped to the top of the overall leaderboard but with two games to be played still in round five, he could be overcome by Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom and Brodie Grundy, Richmond’s Dustin Martin or Melbourne’s Max Gawn.
