AHEAD of their meeting in Round nine of the 2018 AFL Premiership Season we thought we would look back at one of our favourite clashes between Port Adelaide and Gold Coast.

The Power had started the 2017 season with four wins and three losses while the Suns had just had an outstanding win over Geelong to come to Shanghai with an air of expectation about how they would perform.

In the historic first match for premiership points outside of Australia and New Zealand, a sold-out crowd at the Jiangwan Stadium experienced a polished Power performance.

The Suns led early through a goal which needed a score review to Michael Barlow but Port slowly took control of the game and killed it off with six goals to one in the second term.

The highlight was an extraordinary soccered goal from the boundary by Power utility Justin Westhoff.

Midfielder Brad Ebert had 31 touches and was best on ground despite having arrived in China late because of the birth of his son Leo.

Captain Travis Boak was also influential after racking up 30 disposals, eleven marks, six tackles and two goals.

The game had only come about because of Port Adelaide’s foresight and the club reaped the rewards, returning to Adelaide with four points and a confidence boost heading into the bye.
