AS Port Adelaide prepares to face the Gold Coast at Adelaide Arena at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai in Round 9 of the 2018 AFL season, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back on the last time the sides met.

It was Round 23 of the 2017 season and Port Adelaide was looking to seal a spot in the top four, against a Suns side which had lost seven games in a row.

In what will go down as a record-breaking encounter, the Power had its second-biggest win in its history while keeping the Suns to their lowest score ever – and the lowest score it had ever conceded – bettering the 3.9 (27) scored by Melbourne in Round 9, 1997.

With interim coach Dean Solomon at the helm, the Suns went goal for goal with the Power in the opening quarter, with the Power holding a two-point lead at the first break.

But Port then booted 12 consecutive goals while keeping the Suns scoreless for the second and third quarters to break the game apart.

Small forward Sam Gray had a field day with six goals and 24 possessions, while Charlie Dixon booted four against his old side.

Ollie Wines was among the Power’s best with 32 touches in the midfield and Paddy Ryder was dominant in ruck with 20 touches and 37 hit-outs.

The 115-point win fell just short of the 117-point victory over Hawthorn in Round 13, 2005 as Port Adelaide’s biggest, and the Suns fell to their eighth straight loss.

The win set up Port for an elimination final against West Coast the following week.
