PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Brad Ebert says the Power can improve its game after a decent start to the season.

The Power’s win over Gold Coast in Shanghai last Saturday sees it go into the bye in sixth position on the AFL ladder with six wins and three losses.

Only percentage separates Port and the third-placed Melbourne.

“I think we’re playing some pretty decent football,” Ebert said on Triple M’s Roo and Ditts.

“I guess when you’re sitting 6-3 and especially seeing as we feel as though we lost a couple of games we shouldn’t have lost, we’re looking to improve obviously.

“But I think we’re just starting to get the things right that we’ve been working on and hopefully we can kick it up a notch to go from here.”

Ebert is holidaying at Willunga but will report back to the club on Friday along with his teammates.

He said having reflected on Saturday’s game, accuracy in front of goal was an area that could be improved.

“We’ve probably been a bit up and down with our goalkicking,” Ebert said.

“One week I’ll think we’re hitting everything and the next we’re missing a fair few.

“I don’t think it’s an issue, I think it’s a work in progress.

“On the weekend it was deceiving on the TV, it was raining all day and we had a really wet slippery footy so I’d imagine that played a part in the goalkicking.

After a disappointing performance against West Coast in Round 7, the Power bounced back to win its next two games against Adelaide and the Suns.

Port has managed to finish on top in contested possessions, a statistic the Eagles were dominant in when the sides met.

Ebert said having seen the reigning Premiers being beaten in Perth at the weekend put his side’s result in perspective.

“We were really disappointed with it because we felt like we played poorly over there but then you look at every team,” he said.

“I guess (the Eagles) are on a roll at the moment and everyone’s playing poorly because of the way they play against them.

“Whilst it wasn’t a good game for us, you put it in perspective when Richmond is the other form team and they lost by 40 points as well.”
