PORT ADELAIDE has coughed up an eight-point lead at the final change to go down to Adelaide by 56-points at Kadina Oval in the SANFL’s Indigenous Round.

A strong breeze to one end of the oval saw just one goal scored at the other and the Crows made the most of it.

The Magpies broke with tradition and wore a guernsey not featuring the iconic Port Adelaide prison bars for the first time in more than 100 years.

Looking to get back on the winner’s list, the Magpies made six changes to the team which lost to the Eagles last week.

Kicking with the aid of a very strong swirly breeze, they started well enough but failed to capitalise on numerous scoring opportunities.

After kicking seven behinds, debutant Harrison Morgan marked strongly on the lead before booting his first league goal.

A wasteful Magpies outfit trailed by seven points at the first change but managed just one major in the second quarter as well, copping 4.7 as the Crows made better use of the breeze.

Dom Barry managed the sole goal for the Magpies in the second term after latching onto a chain of handpasses and running into an open goal.

Something changed after the main break.

The Magpies piled on six goals to none to turn a 32-point deficit into an eight-point lead at the final change.

Jarrod Lienert set the tone with his run and strength off half back.

He booted the first goal of the quarter inside a minute from 60 metres out, while captain Steven Summerton bested that with a left footed hook around the body from inside the centre square.

The only dampener was what appeared to be a serious ankle injury to young forward Todd Marshall who was stretchered from the ground after rolling his left ankle.

Against the breeze in the final term, the Magpies failed to score.

The Crows on the other hand racked up their highest score of the season with a remarkable ten goals of their own.

Such was the breeze that neither side was able to score at one end after quarter time.

It was Adelaide’s first win of the season and a disappointing trip to the Yorke Peninsula for Port Adelaide.
