AS Port Adelaide prepares to face Greater Western Sydney at Adelaide Oval in Round 18 of the 2018 AFL Season, portadelaidefc.com.au looks back at the last time the sides met.

It was Round 4 last season and the sides met at UNSW Canberra Oval with the Giants fourth on the ladder and the Power fifth.

Port was trying to prove its top-four credentials but it was the Giants who threatened to break the game apart early, and when big forward Jeremy Cameron kicked his 250th career goal in the first quarter the hope side had a 15-point lead.

But Port steadied with a couple of late goals to remain within three points at the first change.

Power speedster Matt White was making his long-awaited return to football after more than a year out with injury but his side was being dominated in most of the key statistics, including hit-outs, clearances, inside 50s and contested possessions.

The Giants kept threatening to kick away but Port kept them within touching distance, actually leading by a point at the main break and by four points at three quarter time, showing impressive efficiency going forward.

When small forward Toby Green booted consecutive goals to make it four for the game at the start the last term and then Jonathon Patton imposed himself with a couple himself to make it six for the game, things looked bleak for the Power.

The visitors failed to kick another major after three quarter time as the Giants ran over the top of them.

Brad Ebert was busy for the Power with 21 touches, seven marks and six tackles while Jasper Pittard (24 touches, seven marks) and skipper Travis Boak (20 disposals, three marks, four tackles, two goals) were important contributors.

The result was Port’s second loss in a row, after a loss in the Showdown a week earlier.
