PORT ADELAIDE MAGPIES coach Matthew Lokan admits there weren’t too many positives to take away from his side's disappointing 74-point loss at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking after the game, Lokan said while he thought his team was right in it at half time, South Adelaide was too strong on the outside of the contest.

“All credit to South, they played a really strong game of football,” Lokan said.

“I can never have a crack at our boys for their effort - they go in as hard as any team - but we just got hurt on the outside.

“We have three games left for the season and we will continue to work hard on the track to turn around our form.”

The Magpies trailed by 12 points at the main break but were blown away in the second half, conceding the last seven goals of the game.

Jack Trengove and Will Snelling were strong contributors for the home side, collecting 31 and 19 disposals respectively.

“Those two boys were great for us but in all fairness when you get beaten by 12 goals it’s hard to celebrate individual performances,” Lokan said.

“Jack comes back to the side and he is a real leader, he trains as hard as anyone and he is a player our young guys can learn from.”

The Magpies only mustered six goals for the game and Lokan admitted it was going to be a tough ask with a number of tall options unavailable.

“We had Lindsay Thomas as our main target in the forward 50 and our ball use was great heading into attack,” he said.

“I thought Lindsay tried hard for us all day and he kicked a couple of nice goals.”

Port head to City Mazda Stadium next Saturday when they clash with West Adelaide in Round 16 of the SANFL.
