SUNDAY was a very special day for 10 year old Planet Teal Member, Kate Jager.
Kate had her banner design on display as the boys ran out onto the field, and through it, before they took on the Demons.
The design - which reflects the attitude of the club, our players and supporters moving into 2011 - featured the text “Together we will Power towards the future” and was the winning design in the first ever Planet Teal Power Banner design competition.
Entry forms were sent to every primary school in the state, with kids between the ages of five and 12 encouraged to submit their designs. The winner would get to help the cheer squad make the banner for the round 21 game against Melbourne, and be out on the field before the game to form the guard of honour for the team as they ran out onto the ground!
Also included in the prize were 100 tickets to the game so Kate could share the experience with his/her classmates, family and friends. As a bonus, every child who entered was also offered two free tickets to the game and we were happy that most of them took us up on the offer.
We received over 900 entries from school children from metro and regional areas, and after a tough judging process, we picked our deserving winner, Kate.
Congratulations Kate on winning this year’s competition. We encourage all Planet Teal members to enter the competition again next year.
