PORT Adelaide has signed new deals with five out-of-contract players.

Wingman Danyle Pearce has re-signed with the club, as have former skipper Warren Tredrea, defender Michael Pettigrew, hard-nut Tom Logan and young ruckman Matthew Lobbe.

Former Power captain Tredrea, 30, will line up for his 250th career game with the Power in his second match next season, becoming the first Power player to reach that milestone in the AFL.

Tredrea kicked 51 goals in 2009, for a career tally of 539 over 13 completed seasons.

Power Football Operations Manager Peter Rohde says Tredrea still has plenty to offer.

“Warren is an absolute champion of our club,” Rohde said. “With his body free of injury for the first time in a few years, Warren showed everyone he still has the ability to turn a game.”

Tredrea says he is thrilled to sign on for at least another year with Port Adelaide.

“I’m very excited to be going around for another year, which will be my fourteenth here at Port Adelaide,” Tredrea said. “From a personal point of view I was satisfied with my form and fitness this year and I can’t wait to start pre-season and build towards 2010.

“I’m also looking forward to helping with the development our young players, who really are the core of our playing group now.”

Pearce, 23, has played 93 games with the Power since debuting as a rookie-listed player in 2005, winning the 2006 NAB Rising Star award. He played all 22 matches for the Power in 2009, one of just three players to do so.

Pearce was the subject of media speculation about his future, but says staying at Port Adelaide was a pretty easy decision in the end.

“My family and I feel that remaining here at a great club like Port Adelaide will enable me to get the best out of myself and take my game to another level,” Pearce said.

“We’re in a rebuilding phase at the moment and I’m excited to be apart of that as this new group strives to get the club back to playing consistent finals football.

“When I first came to the club I said I wanted to be a one-club player at Port Adelaide and if I can keep playing consistent football, one day I’ll be able to look back at the end of my career and be proud that I achieved that.”

Peter Rohde says the club is delighted to have re-signed Pearce.

“Danyle is a very damaging player who is well respected by every other team, given that he is heavily tagged every week. He’s played 93 games and we think he’s entering a period of his career where he’ll become a dominant player,” Rohde said.

“Danyle has faced his share of criticism this year but internally we rated his season very highly. He’s a player that leads our inside 50s and score assists and he has the ability to carry the ball and dispose it very well.”

Pettigrew, 24, has played 90 games since debuting in 2004 while Logan, 24, has played 54 games, 51 of those with the Power since being recruited from Brisbane in 2006. Lobbe, 20, is yet to debut but looms as a long-term ruck option for the Power, after being recruited with pick 16 in the National Draft at the end of 2007.

“Michael Pettigrew is able to play back or forward, and has shown in the past he can be a good player in big games. We look forward to him taking the next step in his development,” Rohde said.

“Tommy Logan is a hard-nut and has played some important roles for us this year while Matt Lobbe’s improvement since transferring to West Adelaide in the SANFL mid-way through the 2009 season has been very impressive. He will be given every chance to put his hand up for the ruck spot created by Brendon Lade’s retirement.”
