Domenic Cassisi was captain of Port Adelaide from 2009 to 2012 and at 30, the club's oldest player and only veteran. A premiership player with the club in 2004, he is a hard in-and-under defender who can play through the middle.

Background

  • Cassisi was selected with Pick 50 in the 2000 National Draft.
  • His local club is WAFL club East Fremantle.

Season by Season

  • In his fourth year as captain, Cassisi was utilised primarily as a half backman as coach Matthew Primus blooded emerging elite midfielders in the middle.
  • His season was again hampered by injury after damaging a hip flexor after the club’s Round 12 match against the Western Bulldogs.
  • Despite an interrupted year, he again managed to average high disposals and provided strong leadership on-field as well as off-field through difficult circumstances across the year.
  • He played his 200th game in the Power’s 72 point loss to Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium (York Park).
  • Kicking two goals in the opening two games of the season, Cassisi’s season was soon hampered by a broken leg which would see him miss the next ten games.
  • Returning in round 13 to in his home state of Western Australia against the Eagles, Cassisi’s influence was immediately felt with his strong defensive midfield skills helping to lift the team.
  • Despite missing almost half of the season, Cassisi was awarded his fourth Fos Williams Medal for being the club’s best team man as voted by the playing group.
  • During his second year as captain, Cassisi again led from the front as a leader to Port Adelaide’s young midfield particularly.
  • His strong capability as an elite malleable footballer was no better demonstrated that in his rotation through defence and the midfield regularly.
  • Cassisi’s defensive efforts were best highlighted in his 176 tackles for the year complementing his averaging 22 disposals per game.
  • He was awarded his third Fos Williams Medal at the club’s best and fairest awards night.

Season by Season

Handing over the captain's No. 1 guernsey to Travis Boak, Cassisi would produce some of his best - albeit injury hampered - form for his career.

Playing 12 games for the year including two finals against Collingwood and Geelong, Cassisi was able to demonstrate strong contested play mixed with running midfield work.

His commitment to his teammates as a senior figure around the club also continued to reap dividends for the Power as an important mentor to fledgling leaders Boak and Ebert.
