Debut: Rd 1, 2010 v North Melbourne
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Brownlow Votes: 0 (as of end 2014)

A former John Cahill Medallist and Gavin Wanganeen Medallist, the big key defender's vertical leap saw him take over in 2014 the duties of second ruckman, making him one of the team’s most important players. He plays a hard-at-it and unforgiving brand of football and, as well as his defensive qualities, his aggression, enthusiasm and vocal leadership are crucial to Port’s success.

Background

  • Trengove was drafted to Port Adelaide with pick 22 in the 2008 National Draft from the Calder Cannons.

Season by Season

Season by Season

Arguably his best season in the AFL, Trengove met a significant hurdle in the second Showdown when an ankle injury sidelined him until late in the season.

Finishing well with a number of strong defensive performances, Trengove remains one of the club’s most important key position players for his ability to share ruck duties and float forward.

  • Trengove started his 2013 campaign well in the Power's opening five wins, but a foot injury against the West Coast Eagles in Round 5 forced him to miss 8 weeks on the long-term injury list.
  • Returning against Collingwood in Round 14, he played the remaining 12 games of the year - including two finals - with a highlight performance down back against the Magpies in the elimination decider.

  • Trengove played the majority of games in 2012 and had several notable performances including against Sydney in Round 3 and Collingwood in Round 4.
  • His form dropped late in the season as injuries, including his own, placed increasing pressure on Port’s defence.

  • It was a great year for Jackson where he developed his ability to defend against some of the competition’s best forwards and his defensive education was particularly boosted from some classy performances.
  • His leadership qualities grew as the year went as he shaped into a leader of the future
  • Jackson became the youngest winner of the John Cahill Medal when he was jointly awarded the honour with teammate Travis Boak at the club’s best and fairest awards.
  • After arriving at the club at the end of 2008 with severe knee and hamstring injuries, Trengove spent the entirety of 2009 getting his body right.
  • In 2010 it proved the right decision with the tall youngster playing 19 games of the season and winning the Gavin Wanganeen Medal for the best player under 21 years of age.
  • After pinch-hitting in the ruck alongside playing more conventional defensive and forward roles, Trengove settled down back and built his confidence – eventually earning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in Round 20 against the Eagles.
