A popular figure at Port Adelaide renowned for his unrelenting attack on the footy, Thomas has the seeming ability to never stop tackling. Entering his eighth year at Alberton, barrackers can be guaranteed that that approach will remain as he tries to come a defensive forward in Port’s front six.

Background

  • Thomas was drafted to Port Adelaide with pick 8 in the 2006 pre-season draft from Sandringham.

Season By Season

Season By Season

  • Having little impact in the first three rounds of the season, Thomas was dropped back to Norwood in the SANFL to hone his defensive skills.
  • He was influential at the Redlegs and had an immediate impact on his return including a dominant performance as a defensive small forward against Carlton in Round 10 which drew praise from commentators for the ferocity in his attack on the ball.
  • Thomas played in the final eight games of the season.
  • Playing on the opposition’s bigger and better midfielders in a shutdown role, Thomas continued to show his complete commitment to the task at hand with a dynamic chase-and-tackle style.
  • Often found at the bottom of packs, he worked to improve his ability to cleanly clear the ball from stoppages.
  • Off-season areas to improve on particularly included his ability to win the uncontested football – one of his deficiencies which will add another dimension to his uncontested ability.
  • Thomas took his game to a new level in 2010, combining the role of an attacking midfielder with the ability to quickly switch to defensive tasks when required.
  • He played a career-best 20 games and got through most of the year injury free.
