Much-loved, versatile defender who can play against a variety of opponents - tall, medium or small - and both shutdown and create out of defence. A breakout year in 2015 saw him lead the club's best and fairest midway through the season and finish third overall. Has impressive maturity for a player of his age.

Hombsch was pre-listed as a 17-year-old by GWS ahead of the 2011 National Draft.

Traded to Port Adelaide for the 2013 season from the Giants.

Grew up in Roxby Downs and attended school at Adelaide football factory Rostrevor College.

TIMELINE

2013

Hombsch debuted for the Power against the Western Bulldogs and demonstrated a proficiency as a flexible defender capable of playing on a variety of opponents.

Played both finals in a strong show of his promise as a long-term defender for the club going forward.

2014

Hombsch was a consistent performer for Port Adelaide in 2014, building on a solid debut season with the Power the year prior.
The backman was forced to step up in the injury-forced absences of key backs Jackson Trengove and Alipate Carlile in the middle of the season. A strong year where missed one game, Hombsch shapes as a mainstay of the Power’s defence for years to come.

2015

The key defender was a bright star in what was otherwise a dim season for the Power, taking a big step forward in his development to finish third in the Best and Fairest. He handled the toughest opponents and shut down some of the AFL’s best forwards.
Despite his relative inexperience compared with many star key-position defenders, Hombsch displayed great maturity and leadership on and off the field.

2016

Injury curtailed Hombsch's season midway through the year. Before this, he was continuing to set standards as one of the Power's leading defenders on the back of his strong 2015 performance. Did not return after Round 10.

2017

A frustrating year with injury restricted Hombsch to just 13 games in 2017. A clear run will hopefully see the defender get back to his form of 2015, where he was pivotal in the Power’s back-half.
