Brownlow votes:

A phenomenal runner in terms of speed and endurance, Mitchell is the club’s time-trial king. That run is a useful weapon, but he will continue working on his disposal efficiency to win back a spot on the senior list. Mitchell's attitude, commitment and determination can never be questioned.

Background

  • Mitchell was taken with pick #5 in the 2013 Rookie Draft
  • He won the 2012 Sandover Medal playing for Claremont in the WAFL

Timeline

2013

Mitchell found himself back on the senior list twice in 2013 and managed to debut in Round 1 against Melbourne where his hard running found favour with Port Adelaide's supporters. Despite lacking in his defensive game, he worked hard to play as many games as possible and with further improved in 2014 will have a bright future at Alberton

2014

Mitchell’s outstanding early-season SANFL form helped him force his way into the AFL side in Round 8 against Fremantle. The upgraded rookie had an instant impact with two excellent goals and 20 disposals. His form with the Power faded slightly later in the season, but he returned to have a good impact for the Magpies in the finals.

2015

After being upgraded to the senior list for 2015, Mitchell forced his way into the AFL side in Round 3 and performed solidly in three consecutive wins - kicking a goal in each game. But he was unable to hold his spot and spent much of the season in the SANFL. He was an outstanding contributor at that level, finishing 3rd in the SANFL B&F.
