After two consecutive All-Australian seasons, Lade suffered his first form slump for years, playing five games in the SANFL with South Adelaide in the second half of 2008. In fairness, he was demoted when Port’s finals hopes had passed and young ruckman Fabian Deluca was given an extended chance at senior level. Finished the season in style, returning for the final three games and racking up 35 hit-outs and 22 disposals against Collingwood in round 20.
