In his first year as Captain in 2009, Domenic Cassisi was recognised for his outstanding leadership by being voted the Fos Williams Medallist as the best team man by his peers. Cassisi lead the way in the midfield with his defensive pressure, accumulating an outstanding 161 tackles to finish second in the AFL in that category. He missed only one game for the season despite playing with a fractured sinus – a true inspiration to his teammates, he was voted the FiveAA Max Basheer Medal as the best AFL player in South Australia for 2009.
