A hamstring injury hampered the tall defender’s 2009 pre-season, but the dedication he showed to his rehabilitation saw him return to the SANFL midway through the 2009 season where he became a pillar in the Magpies’ defence. The standout feature of his game in 2009 was his fierceness at the contest, regularly running back with the flight into traffic or spoiling strongly in the pack. Suited to a key position, Trengove can also pinch-hit in the ruck.
