Power of Dreams launch

The Port Adelaide Football Club launched its new charity, ‘Power of Dreams” on Thursday 16th April 2009. Power of Dreams is a separate not-for-profit entity created by the club.

Port Adelaide Chief Executive Mark Haysman says ‘Power of Dreams’ will be the banner under which all of the club’s charitable activities are now undertaken.

“The Port Adelaide Football Club is proud of the work it does with various charity groups throughout South Australia” Haysman said.

“The purpose of ‘Power of Dreams’ is to help bring the dreams of needy South Australians to reality. Importantly, we want to work in partnership with existing charities to make those dreams come true.

“There are various ways we can do this – through fundraising and through player appearances, the provision of auction items, promotion and providing access to our club’s generous members and supporters, including on match days at AAMI Stadium.”

‘Power of Dreams’ will initially support the following charities in 2009 – the ‘Ladder’ program for homeless youth in Port Adelaide, Leukaemia Foundation, Novita, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Variety – The Children’s Charity, the RSL and the White Ribbon Foundation.

To mark the launch of ‘Power of Dreams’ Port Adelaide players attended four different events across Adelaide to support some of our charity partners:

An informal football clinic was held with staff and children as part of Novita’s ConnectABILITY Program. A great time was had by all.

In partnership with Variety - The Children’s Charity players met with staff and clients at the Flinders Medical Centre to promote sponsorship of a bike ride by Danny Leverink from Geelong to the Power Headquarters for the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation. A cheque for $10,000 was presented to assist with the purchase of a new echocardiography machine at the Neonatal Ward.

Players went ten pin bowling with client and families at AMF Woodville Bowl. This was a Starlight family “escape” during the school holidays and enjoyed by all.

A fun afternoon tea was held at the Leukaemia Foundation’s apartments at Richmond with staff and clients. The Leukaemia Foundation are building new apartments at Northfield for families who are in Adelaide for long term treatment.

We look forward to working in partnership with these charities and more to make their dreams come true.
