STEVEN Salopek has been recalled to face Brisbane after one week back in the SANFL while Paul Stewart will play his first AFL game for 2009.

Stewart, who was named as the Power’s best first year player in 2008, will be hoping to carry his impressive SANFL form into the AFL when he plays his 12th game for the Power on Saturday. Stewart’s good form has squeezed Michael Pettigrew out of the side, while Nick Lower has also been omitted.

General Manager – Football Operations Peter Rohde said he didn’t expect Salopek to spend too many weeks back in the SANFL.

“He’s definitely in our best 18 when he’s fit and firing,” Rohde said.

“He played pretty well for Glenelg last weekend. Going back to the SANFL and playing at that level will hopefully have given him a chance to build his confidence.

“He’s back playing at home and we really hope this will put his season right back on track, because he’d been in great form prior to his injury.

“Stewie’s form has been very consistent for the whole year and he’s finally forced his way in for the first time in 2009. He’ll add some height and run down back.

“He’s a fairly direct replacement for Pettigrew, whose form has been down for a few weeks. Stewie’s form basically forced Pettigrew out of the side. Lower’s a bit in the same boat, with Salopek back.”

The Power will hold its final training session for the week tomorrow at AAMI Stadium from 11am.
