Jacob Surjan, AFL development coach/SANFL backs coach

A gutsy, hard-nosed defender in his playing career, Jacob Surjan rode the highs and lows of an AFL career.

Joining the club during its 2004 premiership year, Surjan was part of a new breed of Power player who rode to the top of the competition in 2007 when the club again made the grand final.

Injury and team performance dulled the end of his career, with persistent body problems forcing his retirement in 2012.

But his commitment to Port Adelaide couldn't be faulted, and in 2013 he worked as the club's SANFL talent manager and a development coach, before being promoted to head up the club's new Academy in the league reserves competition.

In 2014, he was again promoted into a full-time AFL development role, working with the Power's young and emerging midfielders during the week and on SANFL gamedays.
