PORT ADELAIDE has welcomed a host of new faces through the trade period and drafts. One of those is Josh Sinn, who was claimed with pick 12 of the NAB AFL National Draft last Wednesday.

In the second post detailing his first week at the club, Sinn gives an insight into how he is settling into life in Adelaide and getting to know his new teammates.

WE crashed pretty hard after the first day at the club. All us draft boys got home and I don’t think a word was said for a couple of hours. The boys just did their own thing and relaxed after a busy first day. I think we just got food delivered to the house while we waited to consider what was to come.

Tuesday was good because it was a half day. We had a bit of a development day with some meetings and then a gym session. In the afternoon we all went to watch some of the older boys play cricket at Grange for the Dolphins.

It was good to see them run around and Dante took a good catch in the crowd. Hugh was scoring so Jase and I were just on the sidelines cheering the team on. Tom Rockliff was fielding in the outfield while doing a radio interview with the airpods in. We took a few wickets and he was amongst all the boys yelling and cheering. Zak Butters got pretty lippy out there, (Justin) Westy (Westhoff) was out there, Connor Rozee made 82 or 83 runs so he really carried the team and Burto (Ryan Burton) got a hattrick as well so there were plenty of stars of the show.

After that Jase drove us to Henley Beach, which was a pretty busy place. It was the first time Dante and I had been to Henley and we had burritos for dinner. We got home around 8:30pm and then crashed again. We knew Wednesday was the main session of the week having spoken to some of the older boys so we were all preparing for that.

We knew there would be plenty of running and hard work and that’s exactly what we got. Us first-year boys have been well looked after at the moment with load management but we pretty much did every drill, every bit of running except for two drills. It was actually a fun day but you find yourself pretty tired backing up three days in a row so we were looking forward to a day off on Thursday.

The welfare guys gave us these journals on Wednesday, which is really good because I have kind of always written notes after a training session and after game days to reflect on what went well and what I need to improve on. It’s something to always look back on at the end of the week and refine it all so you can figure out what to focus on for the week ahead. I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now and it works for me, especially now when you’re at a new club with so much new information.

Wednesday night was our last night together as draftees in the shared house before all going our separate ways. Jase and Hugh were going home and Dante is going to stay with TJ (Tom Jonas) while I headed off to Karl (Amon)’s house before I move into Ollie (Wines)’ house on the weekend.

We actually went to TJ’s house on Wednesday night, all of us new boys, and we had tacos and burritos with sweet potato chips. It sounds like a bit of a burrito diet but the spread was actually really nice. I’m smashing the Mexican diet at the moment but it was just a good way to come together and build that connection.

We came home and we all had to pack up and get ready to go our separate ways. Karl came and picked me up in the morning and we drove back to his place. I just hung around hm all day to learn from him and then he dished up some lamb shanks so I’ve been fed very well. He seems to cook alright so I’m expecting good things tonight as well.

Karl is really well organised. He’s got a nice humble abode and it’s been fairly newly renovated with enough room for the two of us. He’s been looking after me but I bet he’s getting sick of all my questions.

He’s another Sandy (Sandringham Dragons) boy so we’ve been bonding a bit over that. I’ll move in with Ollie Wines on Saturday and stay with him up until Christmas. We’ll train Saturday morning but it’s my first weekend in Adelaide. I don’t have a car so I can’t explore too much. I’ll probably go to the beach again and just relax. I’m just happy to be here.
