RILEY BONNER has been cleared to play and Lachie Jones is a chance to return from injury this weekend in the latest news from Port Adelaide’s medical team.

Bonner was close to playing in the win over Greater Western Sydney following surgery on his fractured cheekbone and eye socket, but his surgeon recommended he take another week to recover before returning to play.

Jones was subbed out of the narrow loss to Fremantle just over a week ago after suffering a hamstring strain. The 20-year-old has been recovering well, and his availability for selection will be assessed as the week progresses.

Midfielder Trent Dumont will rejoin training this week as he nears a return from a calf injury, which has sidelined him since being subbed off during the Round 13 game against Richmond.

Mid-season draftee Brynn Teakle and first-year defender Josh Sinn are continuing to progress towards playing again following respective collarbone and groin injuries, with both expected to be in contention to return next weekend.

Experienced defender Trent McKenzie has returned to training and is expected to be available after missing Saturday’s win over the Giants with illness.

Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name an extended squad to tackle reigning premier Melbourne on Sunday.

The team will be finalised on Friday afternoon.
