Garry Hocking reviews the preformance of the Magpies after their tight win over Central on Saturday...

Peter Jackson SANFL Player of the Week

Tom Logan
Enjoyed a different role this week going into the midfield and gave us real intensity and toughness in there, as well as good direction. We all love the way Tommy attacks the ball and his opponents, but he also managed to win some outside possession as well.

Player reviews

Karl Amon
Found himself in and out of the game this week. His third quarter was what we are after across the entire match. He racked up eight possessions and consistently needs to work and run hard to get to as many contests as he can.

Mitch Harvey
Mitch is really improving his ruckwork and forward play - he leads up well at the footy and competed when in marking contests. Ran really good patterns off the ball and is working well alongside our other two big forwards.

Steven Summerton
Did everything asked of him again and continues to find the footy over fiour quarters. Went inside more this week and showed he can play both there and on the outside as well.

Angus Bruggemann
Bruggers has really stepped up and taken on the ruck responsibility - he continues to battle hard in there and give us a real contest. Went forward as well and gave us target to kick to. He's improving all the time.

Ben Haren
Solid down back for most of the game. Had several matchups across the match and just needs to be more consistent defensively against his opponent. He had some small cameos in the ruck and competed OK.

Tom Clurey

I was a little bit disappointed with Tom’s disposal on the weekend, there were some costly turnovers down back which difficult for us to defend off. He normally is a great kick and I expect him to bounce back this week against the Eagles.

Lewis Stevenson
Lewy had a solid game after returning from injury that had him out of the action for the past 14 weeks, naturally a little tired towards the end of the game but gave us some real drive and good defending a times, so will be better for the run.

John Butcher
Good speed and energy throughout the game up forward and he went back to Retzlaff in last quarter and did well. Butch is getting good shots on goal but needs to start getting better accuracy.

Anthony Biemans
Started very well this week as we are trying to settle him down a bit more in the one position. He brings enormous run and intensity to our team and is always looks to bring others into the play.

Cam O’Shea
Quite consistent for Cam this week in a different role. 26 disposals and used the ball really well hitting our forwards up and also playing very well defensively. Stood up well in the last quarter when the oppo came at us.

Daniel Flynn

Flynn continues to develop and feel comfortable at SANFL level. He is really enjoying his role down back and continues to defend strongly and then look to help out in offence. A good disposal game with 23 and his decision-making is great.

Sam Russell
Like Lewis, Sam's main objective was to get going after spending a long time in rehab. Looked very comfortable in possession and worked hard defensively to run and outnumber for us. Tired towards the end but great to see him back playing - this time in his first game in a Port Adelaide jumper.

Jake Neade
Jake was our best player in the first quarter where most of our scores were through his good work. He was in and out of the game over the next three quarters but still managed two goals and to harass and hunt the oppositions ball movement.

Darcy Byrne-Jones
Another strong and consistent performance from 'Hank' where he continues to develop nicely at this level. Very aggressive in the contest and has a good balance of defending his opponent and getting into offence for us.

Brendon Ah Chee
Better numbers for Arch this week in terms of possession', but just needed to finish off his work. Good intensity and started to use his speed and power in and around the contests. Tackled the opposition really well this week finishing with six.

Robbie Young

Robbie was very lively and dangerous up forward this week, finishing the game with two goals and, like Neadey, provides the pressure to the oppositions backs. I enjoy seeing our contracted players play weekly and make solid contributions to our team.

Mason Shaw
In his second game back from long term injury, Mason is starting to get into some good form. He provides us with a target up the ground as well as a target inside 50. Four quarters of contested key position play is his focus and he is well and truly capable of this.

Danny Butcher
Danny came into the team on the back of some excellent form with the Acadamy side. He provided us with real intensity and at times crashed into packs and contests to win us back the ball. Always great to see brothers play in the one team.

Ben Sawford
Like Danny, 'Sawf' has had some good games at Academy level. Worked very hard up forward and around the stoppages. Love the way he is always enthusiastic and is happy just to play his role for us and the team.

Nathan Krakouer
Returned to the team after missing one week through injury, took a little while to get going but did provide us with some excellent ball movement and leadership when the game was close in the last quarter.
