PORT ADELAIDE has launched its 2017 Membership digital campaign and TVC, using the talent of internationally renowned portrait photographer Ben Baker.

The campaign features photographic portraits of more than 50 Port Adelaide current and past players, coaches, ambassadors, members and supporters. The year they became a Port Adelaide supporter is displayed alongside them.

The club continues to utilise its long-standing tagline ‘We Are Port Adelaide’, which was originally used for Port Adelaide’s first fan-centred campaign for the 2012 season.

“Every Port Adelaide person has a story to tell about the moment they first began their journey with the club and we wanted to keep telling those stories through this campaign,” says Port Adelaide’s chief executive Keith Thomas.

“Players, coaches, volunteers, members and supporters alike all feature in this campaign – because everyone plays an important role in the life and culture of our club, and have done since 1870.

“Having these powerful and compelling images bring the faces of our club to life, whether they’ve been a Port Adelaide person since 1947 or 2017, it really does show the way that our club has embraced so many in our community for such a long time.”

Ben Baker is an internationally-renowned portrait photographer, who grew up in a house directly opposite Port Adelaide’s original club rooms on Queen Street, Alberton.

Among a successful career shooting for some of the world’s most iconic magazine titles, including Vogue and Vanity Fair, and as the portrait photographer for President Obama, Baker – himself now an official ambassador for Port Adelaide - returned home to lead the photography of the campaign.

“We were privileged to have Ben Baker come to Alberton and Melbourne for the shoot as well, it’s not often a man who was the official portrait photographer for the US President grows up just over the road from your home ground and cheers you on in the SANFL in your club’s colours, but that’s exactly what Ben’s story is,” says Mr Thomas.

The TVC will appear on Channel 7 Adelaide and across Port Adelaide’s official digital channels ahead of the 2017 premiership season.

Port Adelaide will also use the still imagery taken by Baker as part of an extensive digital campaign to continue telling the stories of the club’s people throughout the 2017 season using the hashtag #Since1870.

Port Adelaide wishes to acknowledge the work of Geoff Robertson, who worked on this campaign with the club, and his team at Nation. Geoff passed away suddenly on Wednesday evening. Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with Geoff’s family, work colleagues and friends.
