PORT ADELAIDE has officially ruled Chad Wingard out of Saturday's clash with St Kilda at the Adelaide Oval.

The 23-year-old had scans to his left ankle on Monday afternoon, which showed a high ankle sprain.

That will potentially rule him out for a month, with Port Adelaide's high performance team adding him to the injury list as a 2-4 week return proposition.

The exact match of his comeback will hinge on how he responds during rehab, with the Power's head physiotherapist Tim McGrath saying Wingard will be reviewed for a return to running each week.

“Chad had scans on Monday, which confirmed a high ankle sprain, so he’ll miss somewhere between two and four weeks in rehab," McGrath said.

“We’ll take a no-risk approach with his injury, so will assess him week-to-week before he starts running again.”
