Port Adelaide vice-captain Ollie Wines has recommitted to the club in a long-term deal which will see him remain with the Power until the end of 2022.

The 23-year-old came to Alberton with the seventh pick in the 2012 AFL National Draft and has played 119 games since debuting against Melbourne in Round 1, 2013.

Wines was the fastest player to reach 50 AFL games for the Power and in 2015 he took home a third consecutive Gavin Wanganeen Medal, recognising him as the Power’s best player under the age of 21.

In 2018, Wines has upheld his reputation as one of the game’s leading inside midfielders while demonstrating leadership and maturity beyond his years.

“This club has done everything right by me and my family since it welcomed me into the club six years ago,” Wines said.

“I have a firm belief in where the club is heading, the playing group it’s formed and the support off-field, and I am looking forward to the future.

“My position, and the club’s position, throughout our discussions has been that we have been in a good space and it was only a matter of time before I signed on again.”

Port Adelaide’s General Manager – Football, Chris Davies said he was thrilled to have Wines recommit.

“Ollie is a great player, a brilliant young leader, and a popular member of the Port Adelaide community,” he said.

“We see his signing as a significant commitment to Port Adelaide’s football program and a belief in the direction the club is heading.”

His long-term commitment staves off the threat of AFL free agency, which he would qualify for at the end of 2020.
