Ahead of the 2018 Port Adelaide Football Club Best and Fairest event on October 5, we thought we would profile some of the players who could be in contention to win the coveted John Cahill Medal.

Brad Ebert has become one of the most reliable and consistent performers in the Power side with his no-nonsense style.

The 28-year-old is renowned for his courage and incredible endurance, and in 2018 he spent time in the midfield, across half-back and even up forward.

Part of the Power’s leadership group, Ebert amassed some solid performances across the season that will see him gather votes towards the prestigious award.

Key stats

Brad Ebert played every game in 2018, one of just six Port Adelaide players to do so.

He averaged 10.1 kicks and 10.4 handballs, taking his average possessions to 20.5, up from his career average of 20.3.

His average five marks per game is up from 4.6 on average for the rest of his career, and his 6.1 tackles was also up from his career average of 5.3.

In fact, he managed to have nine tackles or more on five occasions and his total of 134 tackles had him ranked eleventh in the AFL.

Ebert’s scoring was down from 0.5 goals per game to 0.3, having added six goals to bring his career tally to 116 in 235 games.

Key games

Ebert recorded a career-high 14 tackles against Geelong in Round 5 in a game where he also had 24 disposals and four marks.

He backed that performance up with 33 disposals, six marks and eleven tackles against North Melbourne a week later.

Playing forward he booted two goals against Melbourne in Round 14 as well as two goals against Essendon in Round 23.

The 188-centimetre midfielder showed his marking ability, claiming eleven marks in Round 16 against St Kilda to go with 20 possessions.

In trying conditions in Ballarat, Ebert had eleven tackles as well as 20 disposals and six marks against the Western Bulldogs in Round 19.
